Solvent Cleaner

Price range: £10.80 through £66.00

The Leather Academy Solvent Cleaner is a professional-grade formula engineered to tackle deep, chemically persistent soiling that standard cleaners cannot shift. Whether you’re removing embedded stains, stripping unwanted dye or paint, or preparing a surface for repainting, Solvent Cleaner delivers precision results without compromising the leather’s integrity.

Description

How It Works

Unlike surface cleaners, Solvent Cleaner works at the finishing layer — gently dissolving and lifting foreign pigments, dyes and contaminants held within the uppermost coat of the leather. Its carefully balanced solvent action partially and selectively removes only the affected portion of the finish, preventing the underlying paint layer from swelling, breaking down or being lost entirely.

This targeted approach means you remove exactly what needs to go — nothing more.

When used as a preparatory treatment, Solvent Cleaner temporarily increases the tackiness of the leather surface, dramatically improving the adhesive bond between the leather and any subsequently applied paint or top coat. The result is stronger adhesion, better colour fluidity, and a more durable, professional finish.

What It Treats

Solvent Cleaner is suitable for use on a wide range of leather and leather-effect surfaces, including:

  • Automotive leather (seats, steering wheels, door panels)
  • Furniture and upholstery leather
  • Footwear and clothing leather
  • Leather goods and accessories
  • Imitation and synthetic leather

Key Advantages

  • Delicate yet effective solvent, formulated specifically for leather
  • Removes embedded dyes and paints without damaging the underlying finish
  • Selective action — preserves the base paint layer while lifting contaminants
  • Ideal preparatory treatment for repainting and colour restoration work
  • Strengthens paint adhesion by increasing surface tackiness
  • Improves fluidity and colour adhesion for a superior finish
  • Meets current tanning industry standards

How to Use

Removing Stains and Marks

Apply a small amount of Solvent Cleaner to a lint-free cloth and gently wipe over the stained area using light, even strokes. Avoid applying heavy pressure, which can disturb the leather’s finish. If the stain persists after the first pass, repeat the process.

Preparing Leather for Painting

Apply a small amount of Solvent Cleaner to a lint-free cloth and wipe across the leather surface in a single, consistent stroke. Ensure the area is dry and then apply primer.
