Leather Primer

Description

The Leather Academy Leather Primer is an essential step in any professional leather restoration or recolouring project. Rather than allowing the pigment to bond directly to the leather surface, Leather Primer modifies the surface to create a dedicated adhesion activator layer — to which the pigment then bonds. The result is a unified leather-to-pigment bond that outperforms direct application in both strength and longevity.

Because the adhesion properties of Leather Primer exceed those of the pigment alone, applying it as a preparatory step produces a more durable, longer-lasting repair — particularly in high-stress areas such as seat side supports, where wear and flex are greatest.

Leather Primer also works as a fine filler, penetrating and levelling the smallest surface creases before subsequent pigment coats are applied. This creates a smoother, more uniform topcoat and significantly reduces the risk of cracking during everyday use.

Suitable Leather Types

Leather Primer is suitable for use across a wide range of leather and leather-effect surfaces, including:

• Automotive leather
• Furniture and upholstery leather
• Footwear and clothing leather
• Leather goods and accessories
• Artificial and synthetic leather
• Dyed, semi-aniline, aniline, vegetable-tanned and pull-up leather

Please note: Leather Primer is not suitable for use on suede or nubuck leather.

Storage and Shelf Life

Leather Primer has a shelf life of two years from the date of production. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and frost.
